Stills From Christopher Nolan’s New Film ‘The Odyssey’ Unveiled

Christopher Nolan’s next epic, ‘The Odyssey’, has unveiled its first official stills — offering a striking early glimpse at one of 2026’s most anticipated studio releases.

A large-scale adaptation of the ancient Greek epic chronicling Odysseus’ perilous journey home from the Trojan War, ‘The Odyssey’ boasts a star-packed ensemble led by Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron. Produced by Nolan and longtime collaborator Emma Thomas, the film is being shot using the filmmaker’s signature experimental IMAX film formats.

The newly released images tease Nolan’s blend of sweeping mythmaking and grounded realism, hinting at an ambitious reimagining of the classical saga.

Matt Damon takes center stage as Odysseus — the mastermind behind the Trojan Horse and king of Ithaca — clad in traditional Greek armor, helmet and cloak. His intense, conflicted expression suggests a hero torn between duty, grief and the ghosts of war.

Anne Hathaway appears as Penelope, Odysseus’ steadfast wife awaiting his return in Ithaca, while Mia Goth plays Melantho, one of the palace attendants. Set within a stone-lined court, the still captures the solemn, tension-filled atmosphere surrounding Penelope’s long vigil and the fragile human dynamics at the heart of Nolan’s interpretation.

Tom Holland portrays Telemachus, the young heir of Ithaca. Bathed in warm, golden light, Holland’s expression reflects a mix of anxiety and inner resolve — setting the stage for the emotional journey he faces as both son and emerging leader.

Another still presents Odysseus alongside his soldiers, their armor and weapons rendered with meticulous texture. In keeping with Nolan’s aversion to heavy CG and reliance on practical sets and real locations, the image strongly suggests large-scale physical production work.

A behind-the-scenes shot features Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema inspecting an IMAX film camera. ‘The Odyssey’ marks their fifth collaboration after ‘Interstellar’, ‘Dunkirk’, ‘Tenet’ and ‘Oppenheimer’. With IMAX film once again at the forefront, expectations for the project’s visual scale and detail remain sky-high.

‘The Odyssey’ is slated to open in Korea on July 17, 2026.
