▪️ Born January 17, 1952, in Tokyo, Japan
▪️ Renowned film composer for Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, The Last Emperor, The Revenant, and Monster
▪️ Studied composition at Tokyo University of the Arts, building a unique musical identity that bridged classical and electronic music
▪️ Rose to global prominence in 1978 as a member of the pioneering electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO)
▪️ Made his film music debut — and appeared on screen — in Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
▪️ Winner of the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Last Emperor (60th Academy Awards)
▪️ Continued to explore experimental collaborations across film, contemporary dance, and installation art
