‘Supergirl’ Debuts First Trailer in the DC Universe

‘Supergirl’ has unveiled its first trailer and is set for a June 26, 2026 North American release, signaling a key step in defining the creative direction of the newly restructured DC Universe and drawing heightened attention from fans.

The film follows ‘Kara Zor-El,’ another Kryptonian survivor who escaped the planet alongside ‘Clark Kent.’ Living a free-spirited life on Earth, Kara is forced to confront an unidentified alien threat, prompting a journey of self-discovery that ultimately leads to her emergence as Supergirl. Millie Alcock stars as ‘Kara (Supergirl),’ portraying the character’s growing pains, inner turbulence and eventual heroism. Craig Gillespie, best known for directing the 2021 feature ‘Cruella,’ brings his signature stylistic energy to the project.

‘Supergirl’ marks the second live-action feature in the revamped DC Universe overseen by DC Studios co-chief James Gunn. The character made a brief appearance during the final act of the franchise’s first film, ‘Superman,’ raising anticipation for how the new movie will expand the overarching continuity. With ‘Superman’ having grossed approximately $616 million worldwide, expectations are high for its follow-up to help solidify the future of the DC Universe.

In the newly released trailer, Kara displays an unpredictable, free-wheeling attitude, a dry, nonchalant edge and bursts of transcendent power that showcase her dynamic range. The return of fan-favorite Superdog ‘Krypto,’ who became a scene-stealer in ‘Superman,’ further fuels curiosity about the duo’s on-screen chemistry.

Jason Momoa, who drew more than 5 million admissions in Korea with ‘Aquaman,’ joins the rebooted universe in a completely different role, taking on the character ‘Lobo.’ His shift from oceanic hero to intergalactic anti-hero hints at a dramatic tonal expansion for the franchise.

Lobo’s long-awaited live-action debut has been a key demand among comic readers for years, positioning the character as a pivotal piece of DC’s broader effort to establish new storylines and a more interconnected universe.

‘Supergirl’ is poised to serve as a major milestone in shaping the next era of the DC Universe when it opens in North America on June 26, 2026.
