Director Jang Hang-jun’s upcoming feature ‘The Man Who Lives With the King’ has unveiled its release date alongside a first-look launch trailer, offering an early glimpse into the film’s tone and the dynamic between its central characters.

The project brings together a stacked ensemble led by Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae and Jeon Mi-do, joined by Park Ji-hwan, Lee Jun-hyuk and Ahn Jae-hong — a lineup that has already drawn strong attention for its reliable star power.

Billed as the first Korean film to center on the life of King Danjong — the sixth ruler of the Joseon Dynasty who was dethroned by Grand Prince Suyang and exiled to Cheongnyeongpo, where he met his death — the story is set in 1457 and unfolds against the secluded landscape of Cheongnyeongpo. The film frames this historical tragedy through a more intimate narrative, focusing on a village chief who voluntarily chooses exile to revive his community and the deposed young king who is forced into the same remote terrain. Their evolving relationship forms the emotional core of the film.

Yoo Hae-jin stars as “Eom Heung-do,” the village chief, while Park Ji-hoon plays the young former king “Lee Hong-wi,” anchoring the film’s central dynamic. Yoo Ji-tae portrays the era’s most powerful political figure, “Han Myeong-hoe,” and Jeon Mi-do appears as the court maid “Maehwa,” adding dramatic weight with her measured performance.

Park Ji-hwan takes on the role of the Yeongwol county governor, bringing a distinctive edge to the ensemble. Lee Jun-hyuk plays “Prince Geumseong,” the uncle of Lee Hong-wi, delivering a disciplined and dignified performance that supports the film’s more solemn themes. Ahn Jae-hong appears as the village chief of Norugol, lending tonal variety with his signature comedic subtlety.

‘The Man Who Lives With the King’ opens on Feb. 4, 2026 in Korea, blending historical context with character-driven storytelling for what promises to be a resonant period drama.
